Jan Brett is the author I chose for my author focus. I recently read several of her books.
What got me interested in Jan Brett as an author was when Charolette Brashaw read the book Armadillo Rodeo to us
in Teaching Social Studies class. This is a story about a armadillo that goes out in search of a friend. After reading
this book I went and borrowed several books from the public library by Jan Brett. I have found that all of her books show
what a creative author she is.
Jan Brett lives in Norwell, Massachusetts; close to her childhood home. She has over thirty
three million books in print and is one of the most popular author/illustrators of children's books. One of her inspirations
is the places she travels to. Brett's husband is in the Boston Symphony Orchestra and when he is not working they travel together
to many places that she uses as the setting in her books.
As a child she loved to write and draw. She was a shy child and used her drawing ability to
express herself. Nature and animals were what she loved. She now uses the things that she loved as a child to make her books
interesting to children.
